Leonardo Linares.
Leonardo Linares is one of the grandsons of Pedro Linares López, the artist internationally renowned for establishing the alebrije concept in Mexico. Don Pedro passed on the art of alebrijes by teaching Leonardo how to create sculptures using paper and cardboard: a traditional paper mâché-like craft known in Mexico as cartonería. While the Linares family as a whole is known for their alebrije creations, Leonardo has gained recognition in his own right for the exceptional quality of his work, earning him international acclaim. The alebrijes he sculpts depict brightly colored fantastical beasts that combine features of both real and mythical creatures.
